Our loved one was called to Heaven, George James McClurg, 74 of Spearfish, on October 19, 2011 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.
George was born on September 19, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, IA. He was the middle child of Vern and
Evelyn (Raabe) McClurg. They later moved to Belle Plain, IA where he attended grade school and
graduated from Vinton IA high school and started working for Northwestern Bell in Cedar Rapids. On October 21, 1959 he married his high school sweetheart Naomi Christy. They made their home in Cedar Rapids until 1966 when he was transferred with Northwestern Bell to Sioux Falls, SD. George was one of the original Police Reserves in Sioux Falls from 1966 to 1971. He retired from US West in 1991 in Aberdeen, SD and later moved to Spearfish. He became a devoted volunteer at the High Plains Western Heritage Center and was known as Deadwood George "The Marshall". He greeted bus tour visitors and did cowboy action shooting with Sass. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife Naomi McClurg of Spearfish; son Michael (Cindy) McClurg of Webster, SD; daughter Michelle McClurg (fiancé Cory Scofield) of Brookings; six grandchildren Justin, Heather and Jared McClurg and Sydney, Rylee and Kenna Andera; brother Vern (Darleen) McClurg of Ft. Collins, CO and sister Marcia (Phil) Delp of Anaheim, CA and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Mark McClurg.
