Gary Walter Solaas, 42, Nemo was tragically killed, along with his dog, Sparky on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 near Custer, SD.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, April 7, 2007 at the Nemo Church with Pastor Nick Rombough officiating.

Gary was born November 30, 1964 to Jerry and Doris (Willson) Solaas in Hot Springs, SD. He attended grade school in Spearfish and Lead. He graduated from Lead High School in 1983. He then earned a degree in diesel mechanics from American Diesel Mechanics College in Denver, CO. He returned to the Black Hills, where he worked for the United States Forest Service, Hills Material, operated a timco for K&K Timber, worked at Dacotah Cement Plant and was snowplow Operator for S.D. Dept. of Transportation. He married Cindy Tonkyn on April 12, 1991 at the Nemo Church. Gary and Cindy started G & C Trucking in 1996, he started with a dump truck and later purchased a logging truck.
Gary loved the outdoors, riding motorcycles, four wheelers, snowmobiling, and also working on cars and trucks. His wife and him loved to go country dancing. He was a long time member of the Nemo Fire Department.

Grateful to have shared in his life is his wife, Cindy Solaas, Nemo, son,
Chad (Jaci) Solaas, Black Hawk, daughter, Angie (Ivan) Castaneda, Sioux
City, IA; two granddaughters, Jordyn and Alisha Solaas, his father, Jerry
Solaas, Lakewood, CO; sister, Gail Solaas, Lakewood, CO; brother, Dale
Solaas (Rhonda) Solaas, Fritch, TX; and nephews and nieces, Justin,
Mitchell, Vickie and Bethany.

Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Doris in 1998 and brother, Michael
in 1973.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to benefit the Nemo Volunteer Fire Department.
