Gary Schell, 72, of Rapid City and formerly of Lead, passed away on August 1, 2012 at the Hospice House of Rapid City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. to 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Graveside services will at 11:00 A.M. at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead. A memorial has been established to benefit the Humane Society of your choice.

Gary was born on August 12, 1939 to Fred and Ruth Schell in Deadwood, SD. He graduated from Lead High School in 1957 and married Sunni-kay Helmer in 1958. He worked for Homestake Mining Company until 1968 and then went into the insurance field as an adjustor in Chamberlain, Aberdeen and Bismarck. He married Reta Jones in 1985. They moved to Rapid City in 1988 and have lived there ever since. Gary loved to fish, hunt and spend time in the Northern Black Hills where he lived as a boy.

Gary is survived by his wife, Reta of Rapid City; daughters, Brenda (Rodney) Artz of Aberdeen, Kyndell (Parker) Shoun of Sundance, WY and Paula Schell of Pine Haven, WY; sons, Brent (Susan) Schell of Russellville, AL and Ron (Rena) Schell of Pine Haven, WY; brother, Robert "Butch" (Sally) Schell, Rozet, WY; twelve grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; niece, Bobbi Jo Trautman and nephew, Dustin Schell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter.
