Gary Dean Hansen, 66, of Redfield, SD formerly of Whitewood and Spearfish, SD passed away on Monday, September 26, 2016, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.
Gary was born in Faulkton, SD on July 21, 1950, the son of Earl and Mavis (Grau) Hansen. He graduated from Deadwood High School in 1968.
On September 5, 1969, Gary entered the United States Army serving in Germany until his honorable discharge on April 4, 1972. Gary returned to western South Dakota where he worked for the Post in Belle Fourche. Due to health reasons, Gary retired and moved into Sandstone Manor in Spearfish, then moved to Golden Living Center in Redfield to be near family.
Throughout his life, Gary enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.
Grateful for having shared his life are his guardians, Uncle Allan and Aunt Sharon Grau of Roscoe, SD. He leaves behind a nephew, Jerry Hansen of Sturgis, SD, and Aunts and Uncles, Delores and Marion Neptune of Golden, CO, Mavis and Merle Doyle of TX, Muriel and Tom McGlade of Whitewood, SD, Beth Fischer of Aberdeen, SD, Larry and Bev Grau of Bloomfield, CO, Lyle and Patty Grau of Roscoe, SD, Royce Simon of Lebanon, SD and lots of cousins. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Mavis; a brother, Dennis Dean Hansen; a sister, Gaylene June Hansen Allen; his grandparents, Albert and Gladys Grau and Fred and Edith Hansen; stepfather, Don Sexton.
Gary's family would like to give special thanks to Sandstone Manor and Golden Living Center and their staff for the wonderful care Gary received and also to Holly in Redfield for being his "Girlfriend".
Funeral Service for will be held at 10:30AM on Wednesday, October 5, 2016, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish, SD. Interment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery at Sturgis, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel.
