Garry Harold Adam, 67 of Spearfish, went to be with his Lord Monday, October 24, 2016 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's.
Garry Adam was born in Lead, SD on March 10, 1949 to Julius and Lola (Miller) Adam. He was raised in the Spearfish area and graduated from Spearfish High School. After working a few jobs around the area he enlisted in the Air Force in December of 1968. He was stationed in Korea during his six years of service. After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked for another few years until finding his better half. He and Judy (Schleve) Adam were married in May of 1974. After that he found his future career at the Ft. Meade VA Hospital in Sturgis. He started there as a janitor and without a college degree he leveraged hard work and perseverance to climb up the government ladder over the course of 33 years. He retired in 2006 as a management analyst, due to early onset Alzheimer's. All the while he was passionate about the Lord, gardening, hunting, fishing, skiing, and kayaking. He loved the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, and the sound of thunder.
He leaves his memories to be cherished by his loving wife, Judy; son Bert and wife Sandy; two grandsons; sisters, Leona and Judy as well as his many friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, twin brother Jerry and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at 1:30 PM at Black Hills National Cemetery with military honors provided by the US Air Force and the Spearfish Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to benefit the Alzheimer's Association.
