Frances Phillips, 91, of Spearfish, passed on July 1, 2015 at her home.
Frances Oleata Yeargin Phillips was born on October 18, 1923 to Maude Mae Campbell Yeargin and Earl R. Yeargin in Ralston, Oklahoma. As an only child, growing up surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins, Fran said life was never lonely or dull. When she and her parents began moving every two years for her father's work, Fran said she had the choice of being very lonely and friendless in each new town, or putting her energy into making new friends. She chose to make new friends, and has continued to do so in each and every community and activity in her life. Fran attended Tulsa University where she was active in Kappa Delta Sorority, graduating with a degree in Psychology. In 1951, she met the love of her life, Richard Finis Phillips, and after a brief and whirlwind courtship, they were married on December 11, 1951.
Frances and Richard had three children, Lynea Frances, Jayne Alice, and Russell Gardner. Fran was very involved in her church, Our Saviors Lutheran Church, active in Altar Guild, Quilting, Ruth Circle, WELCA and Leaping Lutherans. She was an active PEO member in Spearfish's Group BW.
Fran was preceded in flying home by her parents, two children, Lynea and Russell, and her husband Richard. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and David Brenneisen; two grandchildren, Melody and Gardner, and extended family and friends spread throughout the world.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Monday, July 6, 2015 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of the Northern Hills.
