Florence M. Thompson, 89, was called home on December 10, 2012 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center. She lived most of her life in Lead and moved to Spearfish in 2010.
Florence was born to Walter and Mary (Badornac) Ruzick of Lead, on October 29, 1923.
She was a graduate of Lead High School and of Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She married Clyde (Bud) Thompson of Deadwood in July 1947. To this union two daughters were born, Sandra and Cheryl. Florence worked as an RN at Deadwood Hospital, Homestake Hospital and the Deadwood Hospital Clinic for many years.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing and family activities. When visiting the Urichs, she was always ready for some rousing games of cards, which she usually won.
She is survived by her daughters, Sandra (Mark) Urich of Fort Collins, CO and Cheryl Byrum, of Westminster, CO; grandchildren, Jeff (Lacy) Urich, Todd (Vannessa) Urich both of Fort Collins and Stephanie and Amanda Byrum of Westminster; two great-grandchildren, Joseph and Layla,;of Fort Collins; two sisters, Evelyn Sage of Cheney, WA and Lillian (Joe) Caropino of Lead.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud; parents; brothers, Tom, Sam and Walter; and sisters, Dorothy, Elsie, Dolly, and Mary.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday December 17th, 2012 at Christ Church Episcopal in Lead. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the National Osteoporosis Foundation or Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
