Everette Lewis Flasted, 79 of Alzada, MT, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 while surrounded by family. He left behind his final life challenge being a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig's disease.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche, SD. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to Lou Gehrig's Foundation.
Beloved father and grandfather, Everette, was born on May 27, 1935, to Ole & Creta (Sutton) Flasted at their ranch near Piniele, MT. He attended school in Piniele until 1943 when his parents sold the ranch to his brother Merle. At that time the family moved to Miles City to ranch, and he schooled there until his junior year. In 1951, his parents purchased an irrigated farm near Moses Lake, WA, and following them again is where he graduated in 1954. He loved sports, but excelled in basketball and was named an all-state champion in the sport.
After high school he returned to Billings, MT and enlisted in the Army where he was trained as a rifle sharpshooter. During that time he met his soul mate, Velta Jean Holberg and they were married on September 28, 1957. Thereafter, active duty training called them to Fort Ord, CA until 1959 where he was honorably discharged. Upon discharge, they returned to his brother's ranch near Alzada. In 1961 they moved to Lead, SD where he worked in the Homestake Mine. His love for ranching however led them back to Alzada, and in 1964 Everette & Jean bought the Clinton Hoffman ranch, which they called home for nearly 50 years. It was there that they raised four wonderful children (Karin, Pam, Evin & Lisa) whom he dearly loved.
The early years of his ranch career found him working with a team of horses to put up and feed hay to his livestock. It wasn't until 1972 when he was able to buy his first tractor and set aside the pitch fork. He worked hard and endured harsh weather to tend his flock and feed his family, but he did it with a smile and no complaints. Over the years he became known to have one of the finest herds of sheep in the country by focusing on wool quality. He was also an accomplished horseman being able to break any renegade to ride, and teaching them how to properly neck rein. He was an outstanding roper and was a member of the Alzada Roping Club. In addition to finding time to fish with his kids, take them to rodeos and 4-H events, Everette also served on the Alzada School Board, and was a board member of the Center of the Nation Wool Warehouse.
Everette was a man of few words, but his examples in life will live on in the hearts of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His sparkling eyes and big smile spoke volumes to everyone he knew, and he will be missed by so many who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his children: daughter Karin Anderson (grandsons, Steel and Stryker Anderson), daughter Pamela Ceremuga and husband George (granddaughter Chelsey Groseclose, grandson Brandon Groseclose, and step-grandchildren Cassandra Berg, Hannah, Rebecca, Abby and George Ceremuga), son Evin Flasted and wife Kristi (grandson, Caleb, and granddaughters Hannah, Rachel and Micah Flasted), and daughter Lisa Flasted (granddaughter Bailey McCoy and great-granddaughter Kaleah McCoy).
He was preceded in death by his wife Jean, his parents, and all of his six other siblings.
