Obituary

Everett Eugene Harris, 83, of Lead, SD passed away October 14, 2010 at Spearfish Regional Hospital. Everett was born April 7, 1927 to Stephen and Phoebe (Yant) Harris in Deadwood, SD. His family soon moved to Lead, where he grew up, graduating with the class of 1945. He enjoyed high school sports-basketball, football and track. He was selected to the first team all state for basketball in 1944. He entered the U.S. Army July 26, 1945 and was discharged December 6, 1946. He married Norma Calhoon of Lead on October 26, 1947. Everett attended Black Hills Teachers College in Spearfish, graduating in 1962. He and his family then moved to Elmira, OR in August 1962, where he was a teacher, coach and counselor until he retired in 1985, when he and Norma moved back to Lead.

Everett was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead, the Lead Chamber of Commerce Volunteer Golden Gang and his favorite the Cribbage Club of Lead.

He is survived by his wife Norma of Lead, two sons: Stephen (Carol) Harris, Enterprise, OR, Douglas (Denise) Harris, Eugene, OR. Five grandchildren; Stacey (Josie) Harris, Troy (Gloria) Harris all of The Dalles, OR, Chad (Teresa) Board, Colorado Springs, CO, and Selah (Larry) Lefebvre, Big Fork, MT and Tamara (Randy) Ford, Enterprise, OR; brother Delbert (Shirley) Harris, Rapid City, SD. Nineteen Great-Grandchildren: Melinda, Amber and Austin Harris; Aaron and Logan Pollock; Mason, Charis and Maia Board; Abigal, Jonathan, Katelin and Joshua Board; Stephen Johnson and extended family; Karl and Julie Johnson; Naomi, Jake, Isaac and Jessica Johnson. Sisters-in-law Verle Bauernfeind, of Lead; Mary Sigman, of Bison, SD; Alice (Joe) Malt of Middlesex, NJ, several cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Trinity United Methodist Church in Lead, SD with inurnment to follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers the family has established memorials to Trinity United Methodist Church Summer Camp Scholarship Fund and Feed the Children.
