Evelyn Ruth (Schnitzel) Murdy passed away on Jan 5, 2025.

She was born July 19, 1927, to Fred and Gladys Schnitzel in Hollywood CA and moved to Lead after 3 years in CA.

She was a 1945 graduate of Lead High School and on July 28th, 1946, married Ivo O. Murdy. They were happily married for 66 years. They resided in Deadwood until the mid 1960's when they returned to Lead.

Evelyn was employed at FL Thorpes Jewelry for several years and went to work for the Homestake Mine in 1962 in the metallurgy department. She retired in 1984.

She and Ivo owned & operated the J & E Shop in Lead until their retirement in 1984.

Evelyn lived her life with loving devotion to her husband, family, church and community. Evelyn was a lifelong member of Christ Church in Lead and was active in numerous capacities at the church. She was also involved with the Order of the Eastern Star, Black Hills Pioneer Society, Lead Mining Museum and the Lead Chamber of Commerce.

Evelyn was also an avid traveler and along with Ivo visited countries in Europe, South America and the middle east.

Evelyn is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ivo & sisters Beverly and Phyllis, one niece and two nephews.

She is survived by her brother -in-law Malcolm Lorang , Dallas TX, niece JoDee Lorang, Dallas TX, , nephews Russell VonWald , Mt Olive NC, Randy & wife Annette Von Wald, Mt Olive NC , great nephews Cuyler & wife Farrah VonWald, Chapel Hill NC , Hayden Von Wald, Wilmington NC, Taylor VonWald, Denver CO and Dylan VonWald, Denver CO, great nieces Keleigh Smith, Dallas TX,  Karlee & husband Josh Reynolds of Bushland TX and Karah & husband Justin Schmitz of  Lantana TX.

Pall bearers are Bob Thrall, Chris Thrall, Mark Shuck, Dan Hanson, Cuyler Von Wald, and Randy Von Wald.

A funeral service will be held at Christ Church, Lead on Jan 23rd 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis on Jan 24th 10:30 am.
