Obituary

Ethel E. Lackey, 87, Huron, SD formerly of Spearfish, died Saturday, February 1, 2014 at SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

Ethel was born September 6, 1926 to Edwin and Viola (Schoenherr) Conley at Sisseton, SD. She was raised in the Sisseton area, graduating from Sisseton High School in 1945. She was united in marriage with Lester Lackey on September 7, 1945. They lived in Brush, CO 1945-1947, Watertown, SD from 1947 until they moved to Deadwood, SD in 1962. In 1976, Ethel moved to Spearfish, where she lived until moving to Huron in 2009.

Ethel was an active volunteer for many years being a Girl Scout Leader, Cub Scout Den Mother, Sunday School Teacher, Community Action Volunteer, Red Cross Volunteer (Gray Ladies), Passion Play Volunteer, Salvation Army Women's League and the Salvation Army, where she was Volunteer of the Year three times.

Ethel is survived by; her son, Larry (Beverly) Lackey, Warner Robbins, GA, daughters; Faith Maynard, Spearfish, Monica Albrecht, Belle Fourche and Dolly (Gary) Venables, Huron, seven grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Melvin Conley, sister, Doris Deutsch, infant son Dale Lackey, a grandson and a granddaughter.

Visitation for Ethel will be from 5-7 PM, Thursday, February 6, at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Funeral Services will be at 2 PM, Friday, February 7, 2014 at the Spearfish United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. A memorial has been established to benefit the Salvation Army.
