Ervin C. Knodel, age 96, devoted husband, father, grandfather great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Born August 20, 1929, in Isabel, SD and passed away on May 23, 2026, in Spearfish, SD.

Ervin had a very active life. He came from a family of 16, with 13 brothers and two sisters. He and 10 brothers proudly served in the military. He married Gladys on September 26, 1953, and lived in Isabel while Erv worked as a ranch and until 1962 when he attended Barber School at Fargo, ND. Erv did a one-year apprenticeship in Belle Fourche before moving the family to Lead, Sd. Where he owned and operated Erv’s Barber Shop for over 35 years until he retired and moved to Mobridge for 17 years. Erv and Gladys returned to Spearfish in 2014.

Erv enjoyed many activities throughout his life including hunting, fishing, bowling, pool, golf, poker, dice and playing slot machines. He also had a love for music, playing his guitar and harmonica to entertain his family.

Ervin is survived by his wife of 72 years, Gladys, daughters, Cindy Tollefson (Lew) of Watertown, Linda Sieveke (Lanny) of Belle Fourche, Becky Loll (Joe) of Whitewood, and Son, Ron Knodel of Whitewood. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren, two brothers, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life and burial will take place at 1:00PM, Monday, June 1, 2026, in Isabel, SD. Followed by a luncheon at the City Hall in Isabel.

Ervin was loved deeply by his family and friends and will forever be remembered for his boyish charm and great sense of humor.
