Ernest Ronald "Ron" Kenyon, Sundance, WY passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 23, 2011 in Sundance at the age of 82.
Ron was born December 19, 1928 to Marguerite (Almont) and Ray Bradford Kenyon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Ron attended Washington High School, where he met his wife of 61 years, Jean JoAnn (Newlin) Kenyon. The couple married on March 4, 1950 and raised three children; Daniel (Nancy) Kenyon of Sioux Falls, Timothy (Mary) Kenyon of Madison, SD and Ronette (Todd) Kahler of Sundance, WY. Ron and JoAnn have six grandchildren; Nate Kenyon, Andy Kenyon, Charlie Kenyon, David Kenyon, Mati (Kahler) Felderman and Nick Kahler and one great-grandson, Noah Felderman.
Ron was a man of few words and many admirers. Ron was a devoted and active father in his children's lives. He worked from the age of 16 at John Morrell & Co. in Sioux Falls, mainly in the truck mechanics shop, finishing his time there in 1987. He briefly retired to his vacation home on Lake Madison. It wasn't long, however, before he and his wife moved to Sundance, about 25 years ago, where their daughter, Ronette lives. Their son, Tim and his family bought the home on Lake Madison and still reside there. While living in Sundance, Ron enjoyed working part-time, rebuilding engines for his nephew, Terry Newlin. He also enjoyed time with his in-laws, Russell and Pat Newlin also of Sundance. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Sundance as well as an active member of the Sundance Golf Club. Along with his wife they made many friends in the Sundance area. He felt privileged to be able to live next door to two of his grandchildren (Nick and Mati), watching with pride and enthusiasm as they grew up. He also relished his frequent visits to see his family and friends back in the Sioux Falls area, until his health began to deteriorate some years ago.
Ron is survived by his wife, children and grandchildren, along with his brothers, Don (Rita), Larry and Gordon Kenyon, and one sister, Patricia Wolf.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Johnny and Richard and two sisters, Helen Pieper and Kate Halversen.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January, 28, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Sundance. Inurnment will take place at Hills of Rest Cemetery in Sioux Falls, SD at a later date.
