Ellene J. Eldeen, 78, of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Spearfish Canyon Health Care.

Ellene was born on September 11, 1947, to William Juso and Edna (Hobbs) Juso. She grew up in the Black Hills and proudly called the area home throughout her life. She was also deeply proud of her Juso heritage and treasured the family history.

On July 30, 1966 she married the love of her life, Arvid J. Eldeen Jr. Together they built a life centered on family, and friendship.

Ellene’s greatest joy was her family. Her refrigerator was covered with photographs of her dogs, children, grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren—a daily reminder of the people and pets she loved. She delighted in sharing stories and fond memories, especially of the summers when her grandchildren came to visit, filling her home with laughter and creating memories that will be cherished for generations.

She enjoyed spending time with friends bowling and playing bingo and loved traveling whenever she had the opportunity. An avid collector of Fenton glass, Ellene also enjoyed reading, keeping up with family and friends on Facebook, and watching classic Westerns, especially Gunsmoke. She had a deep appreciation for Country Western music and found joy in the simple moments spent with those she loved.

Ellene is survived by her devoted husband, Arvid J. Eldeen Jr. of Spearfish; her brother, Nels (Grace) Juso of Deadwood; her sister, Donna Coneley of Spearfish; her daughter, Laura (Doug) Nowlan; her grandchildren, Travis (Paris) Nowlan, Kayla (Tim) Deutsch, Alex Nowlan, and Tessa Nowlan; seven great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Juso and Edna (Hobbs) Juso; her son, Leonard Juso; and her son, Kenneth Eldeen.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel in Spearfish. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery.
