IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ella Fay
Deibert
July 4, 1935 – December 31, 2025
Ella Fay (Basford) Deibert passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025.
Ella Fay was the second child born to Henry and Florence (Blindert) Basford on their farm 5 miles southwest of Bison, SD on July 4, 1935.
She grew up on the farm and attended school in Bison graduating in 1953. Upon graduation, she worked for the ASCS office in Bison.
While at a dance in Bison she met George Deibert and they were married in Bison on November 5, 1955. Two children were born to this union, a son Marshall and daughter Andrée (Andi).
Ella Fay was a wonderful mother to her children and provided daycare in her home for 30 plus years and was much sought after by the local parents who considered themselves very lucky if they were fortunate enough to have their children in her care. She worked hard always making sure her home was clean and the children she cared for and her family were taken care of. Her home was always open if someone needed a place to stay, and she was a wonderful cook who could make a delicious meal quickly with no planning and feed a household full of people. She was stubborn and tuff and those traits carried her through many trials in her lifetime. She enjoyed country western music, sewing, dancing, reading, canning and gardening – both vegetables and flowers. Every year her beautiful flowers and her garden were her pride and joy. She provided wonderful care to her husband George while he was still at home which we are so thankful for!
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic church, the Alter Society and a lifetime member of the Spearfish and Deadwood VFW auxiliaries.
She is survived by her son Marshall, Spearfish, SD, daughter Andi (Robert) Pfarr, Spearfish, SD, sister Sherry Basford, Bison, SD and brother -in- law, August Deibert, Laramie, WY.
She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents Henry and Florence, sister and brother-in-law Bonnie (Pat) Tantlinger, brother Marlo Basford, in-laws August and Mary Eva Deibert, brothers-in-law, Michael (Georgia) Deibert, Joseph (Ammertte) Deibert, John (Bonnie) Deibert and Aloyisous (Gene) (Carol) Deibert, and sisters-in-law, Margaret (John) Lockwood, Josephine (Joseph) Sander, Katherine (Bjarne) Loftsgaard, Elizabeth (Harold) Mikudik, Julia (Carvel) Kopren, Anna Marie (Albert) Biegler, Eva Mae (Edwin) Baumeister and Norma Deibert.
We love you Mom and we miss you. A special thank you to all the caregivers and the Monument Health Hospice care team for their compassionate and loving care shown to Mom. We are so grateful!
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
