Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Louise (Bohnenkamp) Marscheider, 76, of Spearfish, SD passed away on March 15, 2011 at David M. Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Friday, March 18, 2011 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, with Vigil services beginning at 3:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, March 19 at 1:00 pm at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish, with Father Timothy Castor as Celebrant. Burial will be at 9:00 am on Monday, March 21 at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis, SD.

A memorial has been established to benefit Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.

Betty was born March 4, 1935 at Cogswell, North Dakota to John Bohnenkamp and Rosa (Hansen) Bohnenkamp. She completed 12 years of school there and graduated in 1953. She then attended North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, North Dakota in 1953-1954. She was employed at the North Dakota State Employment Office from May 1954 until September 1956. On October 6, 1956 she married Earl Marscheider at Cogswell, North Dakota. They lived in Minneapolis/St. Paul where she was employed by Fireman's Fund Insurance in Minneapolis and also worked for Remington Rand of St. Paul. In April 1957 they moved to Hecla, South Dakota, where they operated the Hecla Theater for a time. She was employed by First National Bank of Hecla for a short time until the birth of their first child in April, 1958. After their three daughters were grown, she worked as a substitute kitchen helper at the Hecla High School from 1980 to 1983. In 1988, Earl and Betty moved to Spearfish, South Dakota. In October 1990, she became part-time employed at K-Mart in Spearfish until retirement. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.

Betty is survived by her husband, Earl Marscheider of Spearfish, three daughters, Pamela (Lonnie) Scheid of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lori Marscheider of Watertown, South Dakota and Mona (Doug Dykstra) Marscheider of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, sister Margaret Hayen. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, John Bohnenkamp, Floyd Bohnenkamp and Ted Bohnenkamp, and sister Esther Sobeski
