Obituary

Eileen Schultz, 76, of Spearfish, SD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025 at her home in Spearfish, surrounded by family.

Eileen, daughter of Ernest and Anna Beyers, was born in Ipswich, SD on January 18th, 1949. She grew up on a farm outside of Roscoe, SD and attended a rural schoolhouse near her home until 9th grade, when she continued at Roscoe High School. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class in 1966. Eileen spent much of her time riding her horse, reading books, helping out on her family's farm, and spending time with friends.

On June 3rd, 1970, Eileen married Thomas Schultz at St. Paul church in Roscoe, SD. The couple taught school at Edgemont, SD where their first daughter, Jennifer, was born. They later relocated to Worthington, MN where they went on to have 3 more daughters, Holly, Becky, and Natalie. Eileen was the heart of her family—loving, warm, and endlessly giving.

Eileen dedicated her career to teaching, touching the lives of countless students as a 4th grade teacher for 36 years. Her students remember her as compassionate, fun-loving, and caring. The highlight of each school year was taking her class to Walnut Grove for the Laura Ingalls Wilder field trip.

Her greatest joy, however, was her grandchildren.  She enjoyed every minute spent with them. Whether it was playing games with them, baking, watching their numerous activities, or reading them "just one more story" at bedtime, every moment was a treasure.

A woman of deep faith, Eileen lived by example—kind, humble, and generous. Whether volunteering at church, comforting her family or friends, or simply sharing a warm smile, she had a way of making everyone feel cared for.

Eileen is survived by her loving husband of fifty-five years, Tom Schultz, her 4 daughters-Jennifer (Jim) Dickman of Littleton, CO, Holly (Mike) Conroy of Sioux Falls, SD, Becky Portlock of Summerset, SD, and Natalie (Derek) Van Roekel of Spearfish, SD; and grandchildren Andrew Conroy and Ryan Conroy of Sioux Falls, SD, Lindsey Dickman of Knoxville, TN, Julianna Dickman of Denver, CO, Zach Dickman of Littleton, CO, Tyler, Katie, Lexi, and Brooklyn Portlock of Summerset, SD; and Lincoln and Maggie Van Roekel of Spearfish, SD; brothers Russ (Arvis) Beyers and Mel (Jan) Beyers of Roscoe, SD; brother-in-law Keith (Cyrilla), and sister-in-law Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Anna Beyers; and her brother-in-law David Schultz.

Services will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD,  where we will gather to honor her memory and give thanks for the time we were blessed to spend with her. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Paul Lutheran Scholarship Fund.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
