IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Edward
Manderfeld
April 9, 1944 – June 29, 2025
Edward S. Manderfeld (JR) went to be with the Lord on June 29, 2025, at Deadwood Hospital. Edward was born on April 9, 1944, to Edward and Elsie (Sperl) Manderfeld in New Ulm, MN. In 1956, the family moved from New Ulm to Mellette, SD, where Edward Sr farmed for many years. They then moved to Northville, SD, where Edward Jr worked the farm alongside his father. At age 11, Edward had to quit school in the 7th grade to help run the farm, due to his father being injured in a farming accident. At age 17, Edward moved to an area between Spearfish, SD, and Belle Fourche, SD, where he worked at cutting and delivering meat. During this time, he met and married Diana Atanasu (Metzger) in September 1962. This union produced three boys; Edward, Ronald, and Michael. In 1963, he got a job at Homestake Mining Company in Lead, SD, where he worked for 32 1/2 years until his early retirement in 1996, due to a mining accident, that required surgery on both his shoulders. He would come to receive numerous awards and gifts for his dedicated years of employment with Homestake. In 1980, Edward and Diane would move their family to the Black Forest Subdivision outside of Lead where Edward was named and known as "The Corner Cop". Edward and Diana eventually divorced and would go their separate ways. In December 1989, Edward would reconnect with Sandra Pierce and after two years of dating they decided to tie the knot on June 20, 1992. With this marriage, Edward would inherit five daughters; Debra, Roberta, Shanet, Christina, and Carla.
Edward loved his boys very much and taught them to hunt and fish, so they could all do those things together, which they did for many years. After his early retirement, Edward was able to fully embrace and enjoy his true passion, which was fishing, camping, and drinking beer. His favorite and most loved spot to go camping and fishing was on the channel at Orman Dam in Belle Fourche, SD. There he would fish for hours, day and night, and camp for weeks at a time. He camped in the same spot for years and anyone who needed to get a hold of him would know exactly where to find him.
Edward leaves behind his wife, Sandra; sons; Edward (Cathy) Manderfeld of Lead, SD, Ronald Manderfeld of Roundup, MT; 25 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and many relatives, friends, and great memories. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Edward and Elsie Manderfeld; 3 sisters, Alice, Madaline, and Betty; and son, Michael J. Manderfeld.
Per Edward's request, no funeral services will take place. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
