Edner was born December 15th 1930 to Gustaf and Helga (Jonsson) Carlson. He grew up on the family farm near Darfur, Minnesota. He attended country school up until the eighth grade and high school in Comfrey, MN. As a kid, Ed enjoyed roller skating, playing baseball, hunting, fishing and of course his horses. He also loved spinning a good story and telling a joke. While roller skating in Confrey he met the love of his life Marlene Domke. They were married on January 20th 1952 at Saint John's Lutheran Church in Sleepy Eye, MN. The couple lived on the family farm for 15 years, before moving "West" to Strandburg, South Dakota. Ed and Marlene raised six children; Beckie, Joel, Vanessa, Robin, LuAnn and John. The family ranched near Strandburg for ten years and again felt the call to move "West". They settled in the Black Hills near Spearfish. Ed worked at the McLaughlin Sawmill for 12 years. After retiring the couple moved to Aladdin, Wyoming. Because of his love of the land and the cowboy way of life, you could always find Ed helping out one of the local ranchers or riding and taking care of his horse "Banjo". Ed was a loving, son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, passing on to them his ability to love unconditionally to help others if you can and good working habits. His faith in God, family and friends always got his family through. Ed was always there for all the people that he loved and was an embodiment of wisdom and strength. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Edner is survived by his wife, Marlene Carlson of Spearfish, six children; Beckie McCoid of Buffalo, SD, Joel (Danita) Carlson of Bradley, SD, Vanessa (Guy) Taylor of Sundance, WY, Robin (Dee) Wilcox of Mud Butte, SD, LuAnn (Todd) Youngberg of Nisland, SD, and John (Bonita) Carlson of Gillette, WY, 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, Anita Carlson of Byron, MN and Phyllis (Orville) Schmidt of Northfield, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
