Edith L. Segarini, 93, of Spearfish, passed away on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.

Edith was born on October 2, 1919 to Thomas and Emelia (Nygard) Penttila in Buffalo, SD. Her parents moved to Roubaix, SD where she attended grade school and she graduated from Lead High School in 1938. She was employed at Hayes and Rentto Attorneys in Deadwood before moving to San Francisco, CA in 1943. She was employed with Stauffer Chemical Company, purchasing department for 32 ½ years. On June 7, 1950 she married Melvin Segarini.

Edith enjoyed traveling and was active in church work at the Ocean Avenue Presbyterian Church in San Francisco. In 1978 she returned to live in Spearfish and did volunteer work. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, the Women's Fellowship, and the Spearfish Senior Center.


Survivors include one sister, Aili Mitchell, Spearfish; nieces, Lois Olson and Christal (Gary) Pummel, Spearfish, Eileen (Charles) Richards, Lead, Darleen (James) Cobb, Belle Fourche, Evelyn (Allen) Greenwalt, Olympia, WA, Jo Ann (Larry) Tucker, Wenatchee, WA, Clara Carter and Anna Johnson, CA, and Juanita Strait, Mira Loma, CA; nephews Steve (Cindy) Mitchell, Sturgis, Sherwin (Kaycie) Artus, Golden, CO, Dennis (Betty) Artus, Elkhorn, WI, Albert (Joanne) Penttila, Oxford, PA and Eugene Penttila, HI; and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the United Church of Christ with Pastor Gordon Higgins officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Roubaix Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the United Church of Christ Women's Fellowship and the Spearfish Senior Citizens Center.
