Obituary

Duane Frasier, 84 of Spearfish, SD, passed away on February 5, 2017 at the Fort Meade Veterans Hospital at Sturgis, SD.

Duane was born on August 16, 1932 in Orient, SD to Houston and Marie (Lenoff) Frasier.

Duane lived at home with his parent's on the family farm until 1939, at which time the family moved from Orient, SD to Deadwood, SD. In 1942 the family moved to Faulkton, SD. In 1949, the family moved back to the Black Hills, relocating in Spearfish.

Duane worked at various places until he entered the US Army in October 1952. He served until October 1954 as was stationed in Korea. Upon returning home, Duane worked on a farm and then was employed at Homestake until 1956 at the sawmill.

Duane married Shirley Larive on May 24, 1956. After being married, he worked in various areas of the United States, including; San Diego, CA, Napa, Idaho, and Gillette, WY. Upon relocating to the Black Hills once again, he returned to work at Homestake. He moved to Lead in 1960 and lived there until moving back to Spearfish once again.
He was involved with and a member of the Moose Lodge, Homestake Veterans Association, Terry Peak Snow Blazers, and St. Patrick Catholic Church. Duane enjoyed his family, grandchildren, and friends. He liked to go 4 wheeling and driving in the desert with his VW "Bug".

Duane is survived by his children, Callie (Tom) Gruntmeir of Torrington, WY, Kevin (Jennifer) Frasier of Sturgis, SD, Karen Barthel of Lead, SD, Kyle Frasier of Westminster, CO, and Corey Frasier of Belle Fourche, SD; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Jeff Barthel; daughter-in-law, Lynda Fraiser-March; brothers, Robert and Lyle; sisters, Doris Myer, Margaret Gottwald and Katheryn Tiensvold.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, James, Arnold, Gerald, and Melvin; two sisters, Rosella Hirchert and Mavis Gottwald; and special friend Kit Greene.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 10, 2017 at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Inurnment will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD.
