IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Douglas
Dexheimer
March 11, 1956 – August 26, 2024
It is with heavy hearts, we share the news that Doug Dexheimer passed away on Monday, Aug. 26 in Spearfish Canyon, SD.
Doug was born on March 11, 1956, in Belle Fourche, SD to Wally and Wanda (Vance) Dexheimer. The family moved to California and Colorado before returning to Spearfish, where he graduated from Spearfish High School and studied at Black Hills State University.
He is survived by his three siblings, Steve, Dawn and Nancy; his daughter, Shannon; two grandchildren; and his loyal, four-legged companion, Fonzie. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Doug was devoted to his faith and community and lived his life in the service of helping others, especially youth.
Doug was hugely impactful in the Spearfish tennis community for more than 20 years, serving as a founding member of the Spearfish Tennis Association, coaching boys and girls varsity tennis, offering lessons and clinics, and earning an induction into the Spearfish Tennis Association's Hall of Fame for his influence and contributions.
He was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, serving as a faithful Usher and educator for both adults and youth, and was a Youth Minister, Youth Group Leader and Confirmation Sponsor for many throughout the years.
Doug was skilled in craftsmanship and art. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his dog, and was an avid fisher. He loved skiing and was a certified ski instructor at Terry Peak for many years and a favorite among children learning the slopes.
The world lost a beloved soul, but he leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love that has profoundly impacted all who were blessed to know him.
