Dorothy was born March 24, 1918 to Thomas H. Hill and Emily Laundreau She grew up in the Promise area and attended Cheyenne River Agency and Promise Schools. Following her divorce from Narcisse Rousseau, Dorothy was dedicated to raising and supporting her seven children. She worked as a waitress, first in Timber Lake and later in Sioux Falls. In the early 1960's she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska and a few years later her mother joined her. Besides giving "Grandma Emily" the care she needed, Dorothy also worked as a nurse's aide at Lincoln General Hospital, working evenings so her mother would not be alone during the day. Following her retirement, Dorothy and Grandma Emily moved to Spearfish. Dorothy's family was her life, she never forgot a birthday and when possible was happy to bake the cake. She enjoyed cooking and sewing for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren especially enjoyed her homemade bread, cakes and pies.

Her loving and gentle ways will be greatly missed by her sons and their wives; Darryl & Lorraine Rousseau of Sisseton and Gary & Tudee Rousseau of Eagle Butte, four daughters and their husbands; Maxine & Ed Schwahn and Deatta & Mitch Chapel of Spearfish, Gloria & Bill Holscher and Verlyn Kay Koch all of Lincoln, NE, one sister, Mary Hill Brekke, twenty grandchildren, over forty great and great- great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gone before Dorothy are her parents, one son, Wayne, four brothers; Frank Hill, Floyd Hill, Thomas H. Hill and Jerry Thompson, two sisters, Sarah Hill and Olive "Dolly" Erickson.
