Dorothy Lois Kennedy, 95, of Sundance, Wyoming died peacefully on Sunday, August 21st, 2016 at the Crook County Medical Services long term care.
Lois was born on July 23, 1921 in Sundance, Wyoming to Jim and Amalia Bowers. She grew up in Sundance and graduated from the Sundance High school in 1939.
She attended the Black Hill's Teacher's College in Spearfish, South Dakota and received her teaching degree. Following her schooling she landed her first teaching job in Upton, Wyoming and taught all the primary grades. Lois met her sweetheart, JW Kennedy at a local dance and they were married on May 23rd, 1943. Not long after being married, JW was drafted to serve in World War II. Lois kept herself busy teaching at several schools while her husband was away. They were happily reunited in 1946, not to be separated again until JW passed away in 2012. Lois and JW adopted their son, Harold in 1960 and fulfilled her dream of becoming a mother.
In the mid 1990's, JW and Lois took a rest from the ranching life and moved into Sundance. They enjoyed getting to know their neighbors and spent their time around family and friends. Lois was a talented quilter, cook, and gardener and was known as a caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Lois is survived by her grandson, Ben Kennedy (Morgan) of Lander, Wyoming; a sister, Margret White of Sundance, Wyoming along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, Amalia & Jim Bowers; sister, Helen Ellard; brother, James Bowers; husband, JW Kennedy and son, Harold Kennedy.
Funeral services will be at 10:00am, Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Fidler-Roberts & Isburg Funeral Chapel in Sundance with visitation starting at 9:00AM. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery in Sundance.
