Dorothea Williams, Deadwood, South Dakota passed away on September 10, 2015 at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl, MN at the age of 83. Dodie (as she preferred to be called) was born April 6, 1932 in Carson Lake, MN to Myrtle (Gravelle) and Clement E. Kerr and was raised in Kelly Lake, MN.
She attended Hibbing High School. After graduation, she enrolled in the US Army, joining the Signal Corps and became a Cryptographer. She served in Germany during the Korean War. There she met and married the love of her life John "Jack" Williams and they were married for 62 years. During their lifetime together, they lived in Germany, Arizona, Africa and finally settling in the Black Hills of South Dakota. Once there, Dodie went to college, gaining her Master Degree and became a High School History teacher in the Deadwood/Lead area for 32 years, finally retiring in 1990. She loved to learn and would take every opportunity that came her way to learn something new. In her lifetime, she was a telephone operator, worked in the casinos and was a Mary Kay representative for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star #44, Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW #5969, The American Legion #0031 and Beta Sigma Phi.
Dodie is survived by her brother Donald (Bea) Kerr of Florida and her niece and nephew (her caregivers for the last 3 years) Jaqi and Mark Vosburg of Hibbing, MN as well as many, many nieces and nephews and their families and her long-time friend Ginny Dahl.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2012 as well as a sister, brothers and step-siblings.
Private family services will be held at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota at a later date.
