Doris Maria McElfresh died Monday, June 21, 2010, at the David M. Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish, SD.
Doris was born May 30, 1923, in Deadwood, SD, to George F. and Edna Johnson. She graduated from the Spearfish High School in 1942 and Spearfish Normal School in 1946. She was united in marriage with Hal McElfresh in 1949 in Miles City, Montana. To this union one daughter, Ellen Louise, was born.
Doris had many interests and hobbies. She loved cats, also collecting Barbie Dolls and butterfly pins-a collection she started when she was eight-years-old. Doris was a prolific writer and penned numerous poems and sci-fi stories. She loved to listen to classical music and shared her love and knowledge of music and writing with her friends. Doris was an avid game show watcher and delighted in beating the jeopardy contestants to the correct answer. She had an incredible memory and would recite poems, sing songs and share obscure facts at the drop of a hat. She was an interesting woman and will be missed.
Doris is survived by her beloved daughter, Ellen Louise McElfresh Nazium of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota area and daughters of the heart, Linda Larson Jones, Mills, Wyoming and Lorrie Larson Jackson, Casper, Wyoming.
A celebration of her life will be held on July 7, 2010 at 2:00pm at the Hickory House dining room (430 Oriole Dr., Spearfish, SD). We invite you to come and share your memories of Doris.
