Doris Magnusson, 89, of Spearfish, passed away on January 21, 2017. She was born on December 23, 1927 in Osnabrock, ND to August "Gust" Johnson and Ella (Tollefson) Johnson. She attended and graduated from Osnabrock High School. She married Marvin Einar Magnusson on December 11, 1949.
She was an active member and volunteer at Our Savior Lutheran Church, in Spearfish. She helped with funerals, quilting with the other church members and making pie for fund raisers. For many years she was a member of a bowling league in Belle Fourche.
Doris and her husband Marv were business owners. They owned Sly's Grocery in Belle Fourche for many years. She also worked in retail until their retirement, which brought them to Spearfish.
Doris loved to host and entertain. Christmas was her favorite time. She would make Vinattarta (Icelandic cake) Lutefisk, Lefse and many favorite cookies for her family. She was an avid walker.
Doris is survived by her brother, Harlan Johnson and wife Grace; sister-in-law, Sherry Johnson; children, Bruce Magnusson and wife Julie, John Magnusson and wife Celeste, Roxane Dick and husband Mike Dick, Camile Snow and husband Mel Snow; 10 grandchildren, John E. Magnusson, Michal Magnusson, Joanna (Trevor) Kapsch, Brian Magnusson, Jackie Magnusson, Dallas Dick, Melanie Dick, Tyler (Nowelle) Dick), Jennifer (Karl) Snow-Alvares, Haylie (Paul) Pettit and ten great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Marv Magnusson; sisters, Isabel and Lorene; brother, Kenneth Johnson; brother-in-law, Buck (Euphrim) Dahl; nephew, Randy Dahl and two grandchildren, Colbie Snow and Annamarie Magnusson.
Funeral Services will be held at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Spearfish, SD on Jan 24, 2017 at 1:30 pm. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at the Black Hills National Cemetery on Friday, January 27. Memorial donations can be sent in her name to Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 1020 State St. Spearfish, SD 57783.
