Doris Stewart Carlson passed away on October 27 after a gallantly fought battle with cancer. Doris was born in Moorcroft, Wyoming in 1930. Upon graduation from Moorcroft High School, she attended beauty school in Sheridan, WY, where she met and eventually married Roy Wilbur Carlson. The couple had four children, Ronald, Michael, Nikki and Christine.
Doris's innate entrepreneurial spirit lead her to develop real estate, independently own and operate an art gallery and partner with her sons in the ownership of a sporting goods store in Gillette.
Doris's creative interests included breeding and raising horses, oil painting, dancing and playing the piano. In later years, some of Doris's favorite activities were spending time with her children and grandchildren, reading and painting with the art group at the Senior Center in Gillette.
Doris was preceded in death by her sister Beryl, parents Frank and Della Stewart, husband Roy, brother Rex, sister Marlys Peterson, grandson Kasey Neiman and daughter Nikki Neiman.
Doris is survived by her sister Donna Tanner of Gillette, her children Ronald (Connie) of Las Vegas, Michael (Mickie) of Gillette and Christy (Jeff) Schomer of Gillette, 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on November 1st 2007 at 3:00 p.m. at Mount Pisgah Cemetery, with Pastor Martin Crump officiating. A celebration of Doris's life immediately follows at Gillette Golf Course Country Club. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent in care of Christy Schomer, 2224 Gallery View Drive, Gillette, WY 82718 and funds will be divided among three charities: Gillette Hospice, Gillette Senior Art Center and the Kasey Neiman Wrestling Scholarship Fund. Donations will be evenly distributed unless donors have a preferred charity, in which case they should specify with donation.
