IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donna
Golliher
February 5, 1936 – March 14, 2023
Donna was a Beloved Daughter, Sister, Aunt, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, Teacher, and Friend. There are not enough words in the dictionary to describe her, though she seemed to know every word that exists and was happy to share. She knew all the music, all the songs, all the Bible verses, and knew by heart our favorite story books. Donna was a lover of travel, dark chocolate and Sunday afternoon naps.
She was an avid Kansas City Jayhawks basketball fan, and you learned very quickly not to call or interrupt when "her" Jayhawks were playing. She followed her team closely, and always had the latest news or update to share.
You will find her spirit in Sunday morning hymns on the organ. Easter mornings were especially grand, when she pulled out all the stops to praise her risen Lord and King. You will find her spirit in rose gardens where she could tell you the name of each variant, and inside Russell Stover's boxes, where she could identify the filling just by the swirl on top. You will find her love of books living on through little lovers of Dr. Seuss' Sneetches, and generations of adults cuddled up with a good book.
Donna was a proud Grandmother of "14 Grands, and 11 Greats" often professing her age to the kids to be "older than dirt" or "about 121 Years old." She had an amazing sense of humor and a quick wit, going so far as to ceremonially "kick the bucket" on her last couple birthdays.
Donna had many accomplishments in her life, including schoolteacher, school board president, and Sunday school teacher. She had a fulfilling career as an insurance agent, opening and operating Black Hills Insurance Services of Spearfish for many years until her retirement.
Music was her life: piano and organ, vocal and handbell choirs. She was proud to have played for the Passion Play, inspired by travel to Oberammergau, Germany to see the original. She taught piano for years, even teaching organ to her 'heir' as organist for UMC, Spearfish.
Donna was born on February 5 th , 1936, in Maryville, MO to Donald and Clara Weidemier. She is survived by her sisters Linda Mayer, Rapid City, SD and Myrna (Ronald) Floray, Leavenworth, KS, her children Mike (Diane) Golliher, Carolyn (Scott) Telkamp, Beth (Ken) Myers and Susan (Rick) Ellerton; 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three nieces and nephews.
Interment will be held in the rose garden at Rose Hill Cemetery, Spearfish, later this Spring when the roses are in bloom. A memorial in her name will be established for the Spearfish United Methodist Church music fund.
Services will be held on Saturday, March 25th at 11am at the United Church of Christ.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
