Donald Ray Homer Mercer, 70, Hulett, WY.
Donald was born on February 26, 1941 to Elsie May (Wright) and Homer M. Mercer. He was born at home on the Mercer Ranch 10 miles SE of Hulett. He passed away on June 11, 2011 doing exactly what he loved, hunting.
He attended grade school at the Cotton School on Blacktail Creek and Hulett High School, graduating in 1960.
He spent his entire life in the agriculture industry. He raised sheep, cattle and did commercial combining and haying. At one time he sheared sheep with a shearing crew. On September 23, 1978, he lost his left arm in a farm accident. He never stopped doing anything and did not know the word "can't". He continued to farm and ranch for the remainder of his life.
He loved hunting and spending plenty of good times with friends and relatives hunting deer, antelope, elk, moose and, of course, prairie dogs!!!
He was active in the FFA, spent several years doing Farm Bureau committee work and served several years on the Hulett Civic Center Board. His sausage gravy at "biker time" was always a favorite with all.
He is survived by his sister, Joyce Eaton, Gillette, two nieces and one nephew, 7 great nieces and 2 great nephews and by a host of friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents and brother-in-law, Leonard Eaton.
Funeral services for Donald will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at the Hulett Civic Center; with visitation one hour prior to services. Burial will follow at Alva Cemetery. A memorial has been established to the Hulett Chapter of the FFA.
