IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Donald Anthony
Johns
February 1, 1958 – March 14, 2025
Donald Anthony Johns (Donnie). Born in Northglenn Colorado, passed away in Central City SD, with a longtime friend at his side on March 14, 2025.
Donnie was born February 1, 1958, to Donald and Stephanie Johns in Northglenn Colorado, where he attended all his schooling, graduating from Northglenn High school. Donnie and his brothers spent several summers and most Thanksgivings on his grandparent's farm in the San Luis Valley of Colorado. Summers were filled with fly fishing, herding sheep, slopping hogs and bucking bales. Thanksgiving was all about being with family, duck hunting and eating traditional family food. Christmas was always spent with family and grandparents from Nederland, Colorado. The holiday was loaded with great food, card games and heated political family discussions.
Donnie's first job was at the local Dairy Queen at the age of 16. From there he found his niche in life, that being hot rods, auto racing and motorcycles. Donnie's first car was a 67' Chevelle dual carburetors motor proudly rising out from the hood. From there he was hooked. He was hired at Silver Tire in Denver where he started learning about the tire and wheel business. He moved on to Reliable Automotive in Thornton, Colorado. This is where he really blossomed and sold an extensive line of high-performance auto parts. He also gained several friends and contacts in the business. During this time of his life there were several other hot rods and Harleys. One notable was a silver 1950's panel wagon. To say it was a cool car is an understatement. Donnie eventually got away from Hot Rods and focused on Harleys owning several throughout the years. He found friends and family in the Harley world. Donnie loved racing, mostly NASCAR and NHRA which he was always keeping track of who was doing what. Donnie also enjoyed watching old TV shows, the ones he was raised on. Shows like Leave it to Beaver, Beverly Hillbillies, and of course Wrestling, from the days of AWA to WCW, NWA , WWF and WWE. If you know Donnie, you know he loved Mexican food and Margaritas. Donnie eventually moved to South Dakota, settling in Central City. Donnie held a few jobs that paid the bills, but he returned to his passion, auto part sales for Sturdevant's.
Donnie is survived by his father Don; his brothers, Jack and Larry, along with their wives Michelle and Vickie and numerous other family members. Donnie's close friends should also be recognized, Randy Seals and his wife Val, along with Kerri Harrison and the Osloond family. I was told Donnie was considered a friend to countless people in Central City and the Lead area. Donnie is preceded in death by his mother Stephanie; grandparents, Jack and Stephanie Lawrence, and Tony and Elizabeth Johns.
