Donald Fred Fuhrmann, 85, of Spearfish, passed away early October 14, 2010 at Spearfish Regional Hospital in Spearfish, SD.
He leaves behind his devoted and loving family, including his wife of almost 63 years, Virginia Louise Fuhrmann (nee Malvin), daughter Donna Castell of Mahwah, NJ; son Mike and daughter-in-law Sue Fuhrmann of Sundance, WY; daughter Marilyn and son-in-law Dwayne Gregory of Sturgis, SD; daughter Cheryl and son-in-law Michael Dunn of Bellevue, NE; and daughter Diane and son-in-law Rusty Sheppard of Southbury, CT together with 14 grandchildren and their families, which include 15 great grandchildren; his younger brother, James Fuhrmann of Custer, SD; as well as his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Don Denzin of Sundance, WY, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many other wonderful and loving extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Singpiel when he was a young child and also by his mother and adoptive father, Winfield "Buddy" and Gladys Fuhrmann .
In addition to being a devoted family man, he was a dedicated former Marine, who served during WWII and Korea, a retired baker who was well known and respected throughout the baking industry and who worked as a consultant in that field post-retirement; a parishioner of All Angels Episcopal Church in Spearfish with his wife, Virginia, he was very active in the parish as well as being an active member of and volunteer in Kiwanis, Masonic Lodge and Shriners over the years until his illness no longer allowed. He will be remembered as a kind, generous, strong and courageous man with great love for God, Country and Family. Semper Fi and may he rest in peace.
Memorial Services will be at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at All Angels Episcopal Church in Spearfish with Reverend Bunker Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been establish to benefit All Angels Episcopal Church and the Transportation Fund for Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital.
