Obituary

Donald Campbell, 83, passed away peacefully after a protracted illness on April 23, 2014, at his home in Lead, SD.
Don was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Albert and Nina Campbell and spent most of his childhood in West Austintown, Ohio. He later moved to the Akron, Ohio area and attended Coventry High School graduating in 1948. Don graduated with honors in chemistry from the University of Akron in 1953 and received the American Chemical Society's Award for Excellence in Chemistry. He worked as a research chemist with General Tire and Rubber Company where he met love of his life, Yolanda Dominic. He married Yolanda in Akron, Ohio in 1956. Don later worked for and retired from Ohio Edison (First Energy). Don enjoyed his career as a research chemist and interacting with his co-workers.
Don had an unsurpassed character ethic which he applied to all aspects of life; he was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved spending time with family, telling jokes, fishing, gardening, sports, learning new languages, crosswords, reading, and watching vintage movies. He was never too busy to take time for his sons and spent a lot of time fishing and playing with them. He caught a 30 pound lake trout from Lake Nipigon while fishing with his son and grandson on Father's Day, 2008. Everyone who knew Don appreciated his wonderful sense of humor and compassionate nature. Don was extremely loving and proud of his family.
He is survived by his son, Thomas Campbell and his wife Melissa; grandchildren include Heather Campbell and Ashley Campbell, step-grandchildren, Paul Boettcher and Mark Boettcher. He also adored his four great-grandchildren, Sania, Luna, Javonté, and Lanai'i. He also appreciated his best friend Clyde Wylie of Canal Fulton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife and his son James Campbell.
The family will have a private service in Lead, on Friday, May 9th.
Arrangements are under the care of the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead.
