Obituary

Dixie Ann (Raber) Evans, 80, of Spearfish passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 12th at the David M. Dorset Healthcare Center.

Dixie, oldest of three children, was born at home in Belle Fourche, SD on September 8th, 1936 to Gerald and Nellie Raber. She attended high school in Belle Fourche and furthered her education at Black Hills State College, in Spearfish, as well as Augustana College, in Sioux Falls. In 1956, she married Robert Chyba from which they had three children. Dixie worked for veterinarian Dr. Buck where she was able to work with animals which she loved very much. She also worked at the local bookstore, movie theater, and the Spearfish High School. In 1996 she retired from North Central Health Services as a computer software trainer and consultant. Dixie made friends wherever she went and loved to keep in touch with each and every one of them. She would often reminisce on the good ol' days with her Bridge Club ladies and times spent with her special friends, Gary and Ann Richards.

In 1985, she married the love of her life, Bill (Billy) Evans. They enjoyed traveling together, especially to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and spending time with their very large family. This was her biggest joy in life. Dixie loved to plan holiday events at the Evan's Ranch from giant Easter egg hunts, 4th of July fireworks and picnics, Christmas dinners, and weekends at the family cabin. Dixie loved to watch any local sporting event and was the world's greatest cheerleader to all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed going to plays, musicals, dance recitals, and concerts whenever she had the chance. She could be found tapping her foot and clapping her hands to any beat.

Dixie is survived by her loving husband Bill Evans; brother David Raber; daughters, Sandee (Ron) Ehly and Tracey (Brent) Steinbach; son, Randy (Gwen) Chyba; stepsons, Robbie (Lorissa) Evans, Michael (Kyiah) Evans, and Scott Evans; and a very long list of grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents Gerald and Nellie Raber and brother Richard Raber.
