Obituary

Diana "Sis" Jean Renner was born in Custer, South Dakota July 10, 1947, to Gordon and Jessie Renner. Diana died at Black Hills Rehabilitation and Health Care Center on January 11, 2019.

Diana began her education at the Children's Hospital and School (LifeScape) in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of six and graduated from high school in 1970. The private, non-profit hospital and school were originally created to provide rehabilitation and education to children suffering from polio and later expanded to include children with all physical disabilities. Although, Diana suffered from Cerebral Palsy making her speech and physical activities a challenge she rarely let it slow her down and never complained. She was always game for an adventure with her friends and family including horseback riding and tubing. She once even went cave spelunking with her brother, Steve in Arizona. She enjoyed traveling especially to Mexico with her mom and sister, Ann.

July 4 th was one of her favorite holidays. She loved to fire Roman Candles and to watch her nieces and nephews light up the sky. Sis taught us all how to be inclusive and to love with abandon.

Diana was quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor. Her favorite sayings were "how naughty can I be and still get into heaven" and "you can agree with me or you can be wrong." She was also the family historian and the only one in the family able to follow written instruction. Whether you were building a storage shed or trying to set a watch or figure out the remote control you could count on Sis.

She loved romance novels, bingo, crossword puzzles, word searches and Dr. Pepper. She could keep track of 15 bingo cards at a time and God help you if you tried to talk to her during a bingo game.

After her mother's stroke, Diana lived alone for the first time in her life at the age of 63. She was fiercely independent and enjoyed taking Rapid Ride to visit her mother in the nursing home and to the Rushmore Mall where she enjoyed shopping and often met her family for lunch. Diana was well loved by everyone who knew her including the baristas at the Rushmore Mall Starbucks. The staff and residents of the nursing facility where she lived the last six months of her life described her as a joyful friend who they could count on to always have a smile.

Thankful to have shared Sis's life are brothers, Jack (Patti) and Steven (Debbie) Renner; sister, Ann Renner (Michael Morgan); nephews, Dade, Dane, Chad, Boyd, Ryan, Brodie, Airen, Nathan, and Oliver, and nieces, Edith and Olivia, as well as numerous great and great-great-nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Jessie Renner.
