IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dewey J.
Dahl
March 31, 1941 – December 17, 2025
Dewey Joseph Dahl, 84 of Spearfish, SD passed away Wednesday, December 17th, 2025.
Dewey was born March 31st, 1941, to the late Charles and Francis Dahl in Isabel, South Dakota. He grew up in Isabel and graduated from Isabel high school in 1959.
In 1960, Dewey married LaVonne Simons at Timber Lake, South Dakota. They began their life together, living in a small camper behind his parents' home. During their 32 years of marriage, they had two children. LaVonne passed away in 2002, after a brief battle with cancer.
In 2003, He married Mabel Collins in Spearfish, South Dakota, gaining two stepsons. They made their home in Spearfish.
Although Dewey grew up on a ranch, he was always interested in exploring new opportunities. He channeled his creativity into various pursuits throughout his life. He started his career as a barber, working in that field for twelve years. He then purchased and operated a ranch near Timber Lake for several years. Motivated by a strong desire to help others, he earned a master's degree in psychology in 1981 and pursued that career until retirement. Each endeavor demonstrated his adventurous spirit.
He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. In his younger years he found tremendous joy in the crisp autumn mornings of pheasant season. It became both a passion and a peaceful escape.
Dewey was a skilled fisherman and a patient guide to all who wished to learn. With quiet confidence, he freely shared his knowledge with friends and family. His legacy lives on in every knot tied, every cast made, and every story told along the shore.
His love for fishing was matched only by his love for woodworking. He was a true craftsman. Known for his remarkable woodworking talent, he transformed simple boards into works of art. His craftsmanship was more than a skill—it was a gift he shared generously, leaving behind creations that will be cherished for generations.
Although life presented Dewey with more than his share of health struggles, he never let those challenges define him. His determination and resilience were unwavering. He simply never gave up.
He is survived by his wife Mabel Dahl; Daughter, Carol (Jack) Garr; son, Rusk (Keri) Dahl; son, Bandi (Jodi) Hantke; son, Travis (Shannon) Hantke and grandchildren Brian Garr, LaCosta Garr, Chase (Ashlyn) Dahl, SeAnna Dahl, Cody (Jenni) Hantke, Annie (Michael) Heizler, and three great grandchildren Savannah Isaacs, Aralia Dahl and Aly Hantke.
