Derek James Snyder, 29 of Spearfish passed away on May 24, 2016 as the result of a water well drilling accident near Woods Landing, Wyoming.
Derek was born on April 24, 1987 to Charles "Chuck" and Barbara "Barb" (Bartels) Snyder in Wheatridge, CO. The family lived in Arvada Colorado for seven years, they then moved to the Bartels Family ranch south for Ft. Pierre, before finally moving to Spearfish in 1995. Derek graduated from Spearfish in 2005.
Following graduation he worked construction jobs and water well drilling in the Spearfish area before working for the oil fields in North Dakota. He then returned to water well drilling in Wyoming.
Derek loved anything outdoors, hunting, shooting his first buck at the age of 12, fishing, hiking but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his many friends and their families.
Derek is survived by his parents, Chuck and Barb of Spearfish; grandma, Dory Bartels of Canastota, SD; girlfriend, Jamie Stouch of Colorado Springs, CO; his dog Zeus; godson, Gavin Yackley; the Yackley Family and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, at the United Church of Christ in Spearfish. In lieu of flowers, and because of Derek's great love for animals, memorials have been established to benefit the Western Hills Humane Society and the Spirit of the Hills Wildlife Sanctuary.
Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Crematory Service of Spearfish.
