Obituary

Derek Murray Hall, 19, of Spearfish SD, passed away on August 30, 2013.

He was born on June 13, 1994 at Offutt AFB near Omaha, NE to Brent and Kendrea (Fletcher) Hall of Ainsworth, NE. He graduated from Spearfish High School in 2012 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in July. He completed Basic Training at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX, and later finished specialized training in aviation mechanics at Eglin AFB in Pensacola, FL, and was thereafter stationed at Whiteman AFB, near Knob Noster, MO.

Derek grew up in southern California and enjoyed boating, dirt biking, baseball and football. In the summer before his 8th grade year his family moved from Wildomar, CA to Spearfish, SD. Derek excelled at football, wrestling, and track. His reputation as a dedicated friend and hardworking young man followed him through Air Force Basic Training. He graduated with honors in the top 10% of his class. He was valued for his integrity as both a leader and team player. Derek is celebrated for his lasting loyalty, for his sense of humor, service to his country; and role to his brother and biggest fan, Damian.

Derek is survived immediately by his parents, Brent and Kendrea Hall of Spearfish; his brother, Damian Hall of Spearfish; his grandparents, Charlene and Russ Fox of Ainsworth, NE, Bob Hall of St. Paul, NE and Val and Rosalie Fletcher of Ainsworth, NE; his great-grandmothers, Norma Fletcher of Ravenna, NE and Martha Frew of Norden, NE. He also leaves behind him three aunts and two uncles; TwiLea Fletcher of Waterloo, NE, Angie Fletcher of St. Louis, MO, Arianna Fletcher of Ainsworth, NE, Mike Hall of Norfolk, NE and Sheridan Fletcher of Portland, OR. He is preceded in death by an uncle, Robert Hall Jr.; and great-grandparents, Judy and Ted Fisk, Clifford and Olenda Hall, Darol Frew, and Francis Fletcher.

Visitation for Derek will be held from 5-7 P.M. on Friday, September 6, 2013 at Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Countryside Church in Spearfish. Burial with full military honors will be at Norden Cemetery on Sunday, September 8, in Norden, NE. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established.
