Dennis Michael "Mish" Boland, 69 of Spearfish, South Dakota, passed away unexpectedly at home of natural causes on December 26, 2018.

Dennis was born December 20, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA to Charles and Anna (Irvine) Boland. Dennis embraced the nickname "Mish" at the age of 14. It was during his freshman year in high school, in French class, that he first acquired the name. Mish, when translated from French, means Michael, his middle name. From that early age on, he chose to be known as Mish. After completing high school, Mish began his career in the construction trades as a carpenter.

Mish was a very accomplished musician and writer. He had a passion for playing the guitar and harmonica. His artistic talents allowed him to write music, poems, and numerous stories. Although raised a Roman Catholic, Mish would say his faith, in a poetic tongue-in-cheek manner, was "Human Being", attesting to his live-as-you-will lifestyle.

Mish loved to travel. In his younger years he traveled the country; enjoying the various sights and cultures to be found. During one of his journeys, his explorations brought him to the Spearfish area. He so enjoyed the area that he decided to settle down and call Spearfish his home. Although Spearfish was his chosen place to live, he never really lost complete connection with "home" as he always remained a true and loyal fan of all the Philadelphia sports teams.

Mish will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Peggy (Ed) Graham, Patrick, Bob (Christine), and Alice (Braden) Young; sister-in-law, Susan; 13 Nieces and Nephews, and 3 Great-Nieces and Nephews. Mish was preceded in death by his parents, and an older brother, Charles.

Mish will be taken home and a private family inurnment service will be held at a later date in Philadelphia.
