E. "Deloris" Hertel, 77 of Deadwood passed away Saturday, December 4, 2010 at her home.
Deloris was born to William and Zelma (Kartchner) DeVilleneuve in Edgemont, SD November 17, 1933. She lived there until the age of 4, when her family moved to Wyoming, where she attended school graduating from Newcastle High School. Upon graduation she worked at several jobs in the area. She then met Raymond Hertel in 1953 and they were married on February 14, 1955. After they were married, they moved to the Lead-Deadwood area, where Ray began working for the Homestake Mining Company. Deloris worked at several jobs, before going to work for Lawrence County and the State of South Dakota for 26 years, retiring in 1993. She has been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church for over 50 years, having joined in 1955. She also served on several boards and committees over the years. Deloris was active in the Republican Women's Club, Beta Sigma Phi and the Round Table Club. Both Deloris and Ray loved their family and grandchildren, loved life in general and loved being around people, helping whenever they could.
Deloris is survived by her husband Raymond of Deadwood, son Steven R. Hertel of Sparks, NV, and a daughter Lynell K. (Ken) Gienger of Spearfish. She is also survived by three grandchildren Weston (Jayme) Gienger, Glenwood, MN, Justin Gienger, LaGrange, WY, and Shelby Hertel, Sparks, NV; along with two brothers Sheldon and Robert DeVilleneuve and four sisters, Eleanor DeVilleneuve, Cecile Dobler, Ruth Jones and Joyce Franklin.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at 6:30 PM Friday, December 10, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church in Deadwood. Funeral services will be held at the church at 10:30 AM, Saturday, December 11, 2010. A memorial has been established to Grace Lutheran Church.
