Delores "Deets" Johnstone, 82 of Spearfish and formerly of Kennebec died Sunday, May 19, 2013 at the David M. Dorsett Healthcare Center in Spearfish.
Delores was born on November 17th 1930 to Charles and Leila (Karst) Flint in Hurley S.D. The family moved from Hurley to Hartford in 1938 where she attended school until her junior year when they moved to Kennebec, SD and she finished high school.
She married Lloyd Johnstone in May of 1950 at Macintosh, SD and to this union three children were born: Candyce, Dan and Brad. They lived and ranched in the Kennebec area. In 1952, she and Lloyd purchased the Kennebec Telephone Co. She was the bookkeeper until Lloyd was killed in an accident, but continued to keep the business running until selling it in 1998. She lived in Kennebec until December of 2011 when she moved to Spearfish to be closer to relatives.
Delores loved the beach, quilting, and jig saw puzzles, but the coffee crew in Kennebec was her main entertainment. She cherished her grandchildren and often said, "If I had known how much fun it was to be a grandma, I'd have done that first."
She is survived by her children, Candyce "Candy" (Allan) Miller of Beulah, WY and formerly Rock Rapids, IA, Dan (Sherry) Johnstone of Monument, CO and Brad "Ern" (Kathy) Johnstone of Lohn, TX; grandchildren Chad Miller, Tobi (David) Miller Ayer, Tracy (Justin) Whitt, Ryan (Aubrey) Johnstone, Ty Miller, Rachal (Roger) Welch and Samantha Johnstone; great-grandchildren, Tanner Miller, Carley Miller, Maverick Miller, Holden Ayer, Payton Whitt, Koleton Goillandeau, Jeremiah Whitt and Gatlan Ayer; sisters, Jinny (Paul) Cooney and Joyce (Bill) Craig.
