Obituary

Delbert Lee Mitcheltree, 81 of Deadwood passed away on March 21, 2015 at the Ft. Meade VA in Sturgis, SD, surrounded by his family.

Delbert was born in Sturgis, SD September 4th, 1933 and attended Deadwood, High school. At age 19 he joined the USAF and then went into the Navy where he found a love for boxing and competed as a golden glove winner. He was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1958. He went to Tucson, Arizona where he met the love of his life Louise and together they moved back to South Dakota in 1976. Delbert started working for the Homestake Goldmine in 1977 and retired in 1995.

Delbert enjoyed many things in life. In his early years, he was an avid Pool Player and would travel places with friends to compete while he was an active participant in the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and a member of the local V.F.W. He played softball in Deadwood and was a competitive bowler. He enjoyed playing cards with anyone who would take the challenge at 13 hand rummy. He enjoyed camping with family and friends and going for drives with Louise.

He was a simple guy who didn't need much to make him happy. It was the love of his family that kept him going after the passing of his wife. He loved being surrounded by family. He loved us all.

He left an impression on everyone he met. If he wasn't telling you a joke or playing a joke on you it was a rare occasion. We will miss his laughter and sense of humor the most.

He is survived by his children, Doug Isaacks, Debra Chase, Tienna (Norris) Mayben, Bob (Laurie) Mitcheltree, Penny (Shannon) Butler; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; brother in-law, Harold (Margret) Currier and sister-in-laws, Shirley Goodin and Jeannine Jones.

Funeral Services will be at 10 AM, with visitation one hour prior to the service on Friday, March 27, at the Lead-Deadwood Memorial Chapel in Lead. Interment will follow at Oakridge Cemetery near Deadwood.
