Obituary

Dean F. Aschenbrenner, 67 of Denver, CO passed away on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at his home after a lengthy battle with respiratory problems following throat cancer.

Dean was born in Rapid City, SD on June 20, 1947 to Carl and Evelyn (Wilson) Aschenbrenner. He was raised in Lead where he attended school and graduated from Lead High School in 1965.

Dean enlisted in the US Army in 1966. He was assigned to duty in Vietnam in January of 1967 as a supply sergeant. At that time his brother Dennis was killed in action there. Dean was then sent back to the States when he got an early release from the Army.

After Dean returned to Lead he went to work for Homestake Mining Company. In January of 1968 he married Charlene Merow and daughter Michelle was born in 1969. He entered Black Hills State College and graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration in 1972. Following graduation he moved to Denver and began working for Continental Signs. In 1976 he bought the business and renamed it Architectural Signs. He owned and operated the business for 38 years, until failing health caused him to sell the business in 2014. In 1995, he remarried and had a daughter, Lauren.
Dean enjoyed traveling, cooking for his friends and hosting football parties for everyone at his house for his beloved Denver Broncos. Even though Dean lived in Denver for many years the best seat to watch his favorite team was at home with friends. He also enjoyed working in his yard and garden and when he found time he would go fishing with his friends in the Rockies.

Dean is survived by his daughters, Michelle of Phoenix, AZ and Lauren of Denver, CO; twin brother David of Lead; sister, Mary Lou (Gene) Raetz of Rapid City; special friends, Bob and Joyce Kemp of Phoenix, AZ; great nephew Jesse Pratt of Lead and great niece Tehya Cox of Rapid City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Evelyn; grandparents; brother, Dennis and sister-in-law, Kathy.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM on June 19, 2014 at Black Hills National Cemetery. A reception will follow at 12:30 PM at the VFW in Deadwood.
