David Wayne Marty was born in Sacramento, CA on April 21, 1968 and passed away on May 18, 2016 at home in Spearfish, SD, surrounded by family, after a strong fight with bone cancer.

He was a 4th generation Californian and moved to Spearfish, SD in 2013. An avid athlete, Dave was very involved in disc golf at the Shady Oaks Course in Orangevale, CA organizing and running tournaments for many years and loved to play golf. He also played baseball, football and bowled and had quite the childhood trophy collection. He was a natural athlete.

Dave worked at Exit 14 / Phillips 66 in Spearfish and enjoyed his job, customers and team greatly. During Dave's illness, there was rarely a day that went by that a customer didn't asked how he was doing. His sense of humor and feistiness will be missed.

He is survived by his parents, Dennis Marty (Joni Eplett) of Bandon, OR and Mary Jane Marty of Shingle Springs, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Michelle and Mike Kane of Spearfish, SD; uncle, Bob Gall of Orangevale, CA, and aunts, cousins and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents, three uncles and his beloved black cat, Ducy.

A celebration of Dave's life is set to take place at Crow Peak Brewery on Thursday, May 26 from 5-7PM.

Dave's family would like to thank Mavis Jewitt, RN and the team at Hospice of the Northern Hills for their support and kindness during the last months of Dave's life as well as the team in the wound care department at Spearfish Regional and the pharmacy staff at Queen City Medical Center.

A memorial has been established in Dave's name to Hospice of the Northern Hills, 1440 N Main St, Spearfish, SD 57783.
