Obituary

David Maas, 82 of Spearfish, South Dakota, knocked on Heaven's door November 6, 2018.

David was born in Trenton, NJ, to Louise Cadwallader and Leonhard Maas on October 29, 1936. He graduated from Princeton High School in 1954. After serving four years in the US Navy, he moved to Bakersfield, California, graduating from Fresno State University in the late 60's. David and wife Catherine moved to Spearfish, SD, in the beautiful Black Hills in 2008.

Although David lost his hearing early in life, he loved the fine arts, especially opera and classical music. With the aid of a cochlear implant, he was able to continue to enjoy music. David was also very active and enjoyed woodworking, ice skating, tennis, hiking, cycling and train travel.

David is survived by Catherine Polley, his wife of 41 years; sister Jane Best of Maui, Hawaii; son Chris (Kathy), granddaughter Amanda and grandson Ryan of North Carolina, along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding David in death were his daughter Pamela Maas (Bakersfield), brother Leonhard A. Maas (Bakersfield), and parents Louise and Leonhard Maas of Lambertville, NJ.

Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Spearfish, SD. The burial and celebration of life will take place in the summer of 2019.

A memorial has been established in David's name at the House Ear Institute, Cochlear Implant Research, 2100 West 3 rd St. Suite 111, Los Angeles, California 90057 Attention: Stan Augustine.
