David Allen Hernes was born on July 3, 1949 in Deadwood, and passed away after a brave battle against cancer at Ft. Meade Veterans Hospital Hospice Unit on December 31, 2014.
He was born to Betty Hall and lovingly adopted by Eino and Helen Hernes. He danced to the beat of his own drum – and a helluva dancer at that! A verbose storyteller, he LOVED people, he was a talented photographer, adventure seeker, philosopher, avid book reader, sports fanatic, armchair meteorologist, question-answerer for his two daughters, and had a thirst for understanding everything from humans to combines. Did we mention he loved Saloon #10?! Although he was taken from us much too soon, he always drank deep from the cup of life.
He told everyone and anyone that would listen that his greatest joy was his daughters, Alina Michelle Hernes of Campbell, CA, and Reeta Balwinder Hernes and wife Jessica Marie Rowe of Berkeley, CA. His pearls of wisdom will forever be with us. We will miss going to the Dickens Faire, Grand National Rodeo, road trips to Timbuktu and his papa bear protection over his girls.
His fresh pair of angel wings will look smashing on his biker vest in God's country.
Services will be at 10am, Monday, January 5, 2015 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Lead.
