Ferrel
October 10, 1945 – June 5, 2020
David Allen Ferrel, 74, of Kalispell, MT passed away peacefully at his home with his wife, Marlene(Gregerson), by his side.
David entered the Navy(1963-1966) & completed a tour during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion in Baker, MT & a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Post 7885, Ekalaka, MT. He went on to obtain his Journeyman Apprenticeship as a plater & machinist. Dave had an abundance of skills & could fix just about everything. His kids would often call & get his advice on how to fix something. He was very meticulous about his tasks & always liked to do things the right way. Dave met Marlene at the American Legion in Baker & they wed six weeks later. They would've celebrated 50 years of marriage this September. Dave had a passion for history & enjoyed visiting battlefields, museums, ghost towns, & various other historical sites. He also had the pleasure of traveling to numerous places including Hawaii, Alaska, & cruising the Panama Canal while visiting a number of countries in Central America & Colombia. He was an extremely generous man & was exceptionally kind hearted. He had a very sincere appreciation for all of the Lord's creations & loved to take in the beauty of nature. He was a deeply spiritual man & shared that in his devotion & love to his family.
Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Marlene, his children, Brigitte(Gerry) Schultz of Kalispell, MT, Grant(Kim) Ferrel of Black Hawk, SD, & Stephanie(Brandon) Herbst of Queen Creek, AZ. Grandchildren, Andrew, Anna, & Thomas Schultz, Joshua Herbst, & Eli Ferrel. Siblings Cheri(Bruce) Ziebart of Deadwood, SD, Kim Ferrel-Keehn of Deadwood, SD, Darla(Jon) Sherman of Goodyear, AZ, & Shane McDonnell of Red Lodge, MT. Step sisters Sharon Zwinger, Judy Schmidt, & Lin Nicholson, & numerous nieces & nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Irene(Rost), his father, Tom Ferrel, an infant brother, Larry Ferrel, & sister, Myrna Obert.
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a limited graveside service will be held at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in David's name would be appreciated to the Black Hills Chapter of the American Legion Riders, Spearfish, SD 57783 or the American Legion Post #35, Baker, MT 59313
Arrangements are under the care of the Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish.
