Darlene Marie (Fisher) Hulm was born to Mark & Anna Fisher on July 2, 1950, in Bison SD.
Darlene grew up on the family farm along with two brothers and five sisters. She attended the Brushy Grade School along the Bixby Road near their family farm. She graduated from Faith High School in 1968. During the summers of her high school years she played in a neighborhood band, called the Drew Teens, which consisted of Darlene, now Fr Arnie Kari and John Clark. Darlene had a very pretty voice and sang songs and played the drums.
After graduating, she attended Black Hills Beauty College in Rapid City, SD. On Dec 31, 1968, she married Merle Hulm and moved to the Bison Area. Two children joined this union, Shawn G. Hulm on Oct 10, 1975, and Sami Lynn Hulm (Assman) on Dec.13, 1977.
Darlene, Shawn & Sami moved to Spearfish, SD, where Darlene attended Black Hills State University, graduating in 1985, with a degree in Communications. She worked various jobs and then started her first casino job at Harrahs in Deadwood. She held a Key license, so she could work the cash cages and assist at the front desk at the motels. She enjoyed painting, reading and going to the casinos after retirement trying to win "the big one".
Early in 2023 her heart issues became a real struggle. As her health declined, she needed to move into the assisted living facilities. Darlene spent the next two years in and out of hospitals and nursing homes for rehab. She moved into Stillwater hospice care at Garden Hills, and left this world on Saturday, July 12, 2025, surrounded by her family.
