Daniel Arthur Holden, 45, of Spearfish SD passed away Monday, August 10th, 2026 at his home.

Dan was born on November 4, 1980 in Edina, Minnesota to Wynne Holden Sutton (Paulson) and Jack A. Holden. Dan was the youngest son of 4 children. He spent his first 8 years in Inver Grove Heights, MN, and attended several schools growing up as the family lived in Lee, NH, Sioux Falls, SD, Logan, UT, Chamberlain, SD and Belle Fourche, SD where he graduated from high school. Even as a child Dan was the clown, doing his best to make people laugh. While in Chamberlain Middle School he gained a leading role in the High School play.

Dan became a father in 2012 to Ivey Rayne and was married to Jamie Henderson.

Dan worked for a while in the restaurant industry before going to work at Karl’s Furniture and Appliances in Spearfish. He spent several years at Karl’s before taking a position at The Lodge in Deadwood.

Dan enjoyed playing golf with his brothers and grandfather over the years. He also played softball for several years. As a born and bred Minnesotan Dan was always a fan of the Minnesota teams - Vikings, Twins, Wild and Timberwolves. He was very laid back and funny. He did a great impression of Jim Varney as Ernest P. Worrell. Dan loved people and they loved him.

Dan is preceded in death by his step-father, Melvin Sutton, and grandparents, Arthur and Gloria Paulson and Arvid and Irene Holden. Dan is survived by his daughter, Ivey Holden, and ex-wife Jamie Henderson, mother Wynne Sutton, brothers Nathan (Alicia), Joseph (Christina), and Paul (Nikki), step-sister Sara (Romie) Flowers and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 13 at Spearfish Park North shelter for family and close friends from 5:30 to 9:30PM. Please contact a family member for further information.
