Obituary

Daniel E. Green, 71 of Spearfish entered the gateways of Heaven on July 1, 2022, to be with his Lord & Savior Jesus.

Dan was born on November 29, 1950, in Deadwood, SD to Edward and Genevieve (Ondrasek) Green. He was the youngest of three boys. He attended St Patrick Grade School and graduated from Lead High School in 1969. He attended Black Hills State College, Sinte Gleska College and the University of Nebraska at Omaha.

At the age of 7, he delivered newspapers for the Lead Daily Call. During high school, he delivered flowers for the Lead-Deadwood Floral Shop. While attending college, he worked at Homestake Mining Company in various jobs.

Dan married Linda Mason in 1971. Later that year he started his 30-year career with the phone company. He started as a lineman for Northwestern Bell in Deadwood and then Sturgis, SD; to Des Moines, IA as an instructor; to Winner, SD as area manager; to Omaha, NE, and to Helena, MT as sales support & service manager for Qwest.

After retiring they moved to the Black Hills. Dan always wanted to be a snowplow operator and he got to do that for two winters for the SD DOT. He then worked for the City of Spearfish for 6 years as a Safety Coordinator and Equipment Operator.

He really enjoyed being a part of the Helena and Deadwood model railroad clubs. He also enjoyed reading and learning about the Black Hills history on mining, its railroads, and towns.  Dan also liked hiking and exploring the Black Hills.

Dan's faith, his wife Linda, family and friends were all very important to him.  He loved their two dogs, Molly and Keesha. He was known for his silly stories, dry humor and kidding around. He loved visiting with people.

He is survived by his wife Linda, who was blessed to be his partner in their journey of life together. They just celebrated their 51 st wedding anniversary in June. Dan will be greatly missed! He is also survived by cousins and stayed in touch with cousin, Carole McKinstry and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Joel Waterland and brothers Jim and Mike.

A Celebration of Dan's Life will be at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 10 at Mountain Lawn Cemetery in Lead. In lieu of flowers, if you choose to give, please consider an animal shelter or Countryside Church in Spearfish.

Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels and Isburg Crematory of Spearfish. Online condolences may be written at www.fidler-isburgfuneralchapels.com
